I decided to just hold back my account of the whole Man Utd European Double... coz i am still in ecstacy over the whole issue... cant seem to really gather my thoughts.. it will take me awhile to really pen my thoughts onto this canvas sheet.. but i guess for now..i will focus on burning issue that has been on my mind and been brought up by my fellow SIFE gang members...
The Rise of the Career Girl.. when a career supercedes everythin else in life... you supposably lose your charm.. your good old time friends, your personality traits, your lifestyle..your family, basically everything that u seemed to enjoy before u started on ur drive for your career.. but what abt those 19 year old girls who just entered university... they were the same ones who left the bubble world of the junior college where u are just studying a bunch of subjects which might have no direct impact on your career or future... but has served some purpose i guess... in terms of meaning and value of what i learnt back in jc... i still find it hard to quantify it.. anyway.
then these on the brink of teens enter the wondeful world of the university walls.. whereby competition for grades is everything.. well i will not go down that path... but put it this way..each one of us undergrads are run like a FPB... for profit business.. we are working for the sake of profits(grades, value, networking) , increasing our value.. but to improve / outdo each other.. then of course.. now i believe these where these girls who i will like to make an assumption - have not tasted the real work life politics and the meaning and definition of working for your own career, being self sufficient, independent, being on your own alone in the fires...
Let me define a few categories here la..
1) The Daddy's Girl : These are rather popular around here... they are just new into the perfect competition - so they are focussed more on the Freshman orientation camps, the cheerleading, the shouting and screaming, life is a like bunch of butterflies... career is the last thing on their mind.. for them each module is done for the name of studying... coz they believe that daddy sent them to university to study... they still haven really formulated their life goals as yet... these girls i would say are the raw uncut diamonds, they are a workpiece in the making... give them one semester.. and they wil mature by leaps and bounds for most of them.. but at the same time, these are the usual targets of teasing by the the army boys undergrads la... they are very emotional, tend to enjoy the teasing and laugh it off.. this makes the army guys even more motivated... but this stops after a while coz there is only so mich a girl can take seriously.... i have been guilty of that... and i know how it feels like... but u gotta draw the line.. Teasing and Making fun of someone are very popular at first... but as the girl gets more of it.. trust me... its not a good sight... lets laugh together with them and not at them.. they will be back to get u...
2)Daddy's girl with attitude : these are the girls who at the same time are doted on by their family but at the same time.. they enter university with a sense of maturity that u cant really see from a 19 year old... u can tell by their voice, the way they talk, the way they drink their drinks.... the way they walk, the way they position their hands when they talk to u... the way they hold their can drinks... these are very obvious signs that these girls come with a lot of expectations riding on their back... and they are out to show the world that naive, innocent they are... they are out to win the hearts over of their prof one heart at a time... more than the profs... they dont really enjoy the FOC camps... but they still go for the sake of making friends... hmm... seen very few of them.. these are usually the girls who feel that studyin and working is what they are cut out for... so they just carry off from they left off back in junior college..
Now the third category is what i called the Business Girls ( a spin off from the word business ladies) - girls who seemingly at a very young age have decided what they want and who they want and why they want... they go all out for it.. very very few of them seriously... BUt one thing is for sure.. as each semester passes.... There will be less of Category 1, more of category 2, and more of category 3....
Hmmm.. but trust me, this is a gradual transition process from post teen 19 year old girls to more professional, serious outlook... 22 year olds when they leave the university ready to take on the emotions of the work place...I can see it in them... the girls who i worked with in sem 1, i found them to be very very very .......... hmmm.. very Junior college like... full of their childlike humour and fun... but then again, its not their fault.. its my fault for spending my 2 years in the army... I was left with a lot of decisions, dilemmas , alot of insights, alot interesting anecdotes on life and of course the harsh realities of workplace politics...
Happiness and Humility makes the world go round - Girls make guys want to work harder for them, be it their sister, mother, grandmother, daughter in law, granddaughter, daugther, good friend, girlfriend, wife..... We are in this world together to help each other and I will stick to that for now... and for the future... Cheers..
