Manchester United - The Emotion

Every now and then, when I watch a game featuring the Red Devils against any of the top teams in the football leagues, be it in Europe or England, a singular thought always strikes me: What made me support this Club? Why I am still committed to supporting this club to go on achieving more and more... they have achieved 17 EPL trophies, just one short of Liverpool's record haul. They have 2 UCL trophies, 3 short of Liverpool's. They have won the league for the past 2 years. They boast a squad featuring footballers that love playing football.

Does Man Utd really need my support? They are a commercial giant, a marketing beast and a footballing ad for all those budding footballers.

For me, Man Utd came along at a time when I just started playing football. I have been living and breathing football for the past 18 years. I did not know to cross the ball with the curve and venom David Beckham used to do it. Or even dribble and waltz pass defenders like Ryan Giggs did. Or even smash the ball with the same amount of speed as Andrew Cole and Ruud Van Nistelrooy. Or even spray those defence splitting passes as Paul Scholes does on a regular basis. Or maybe even defend like a beast just like what Jaap Stam used to do.

All these players are masters of their craft. Beckham - crossing, Giggs - dribbling, Scholes- Passing, Roy Keane - The Destroyer

These players serve as examples to look up to. There were other players who came along who managed to wow the world with their skill and wit on the pitch.

Man Utd deserves alot of credit for sustaining my interest in the game. Coz if I did not watch those weekend games or mid week ties, I probably wouldnt have someone to look up to/to aspire to be.

If I have to pick one player that I want to mould my play around, that would be no.18 Paul Scholes. And his understudy is already in the wings, waiting to take over his place on the pitch, No.16 Michael Carrick.

Man Utd, keep on playing football the way the gods of football wanted it to be, and I will keep on proving myself that I can recreate that on the pitch. Cheers to that.

Valentine's Day

Well last Saturday, fellow Valentinos professed or reaffirmed their love and care for their partners and loved ones.. Everything seems fine on the outside.. until you start hearing such comments like these.

Well you know your partner/gf/wife/fiancee is so resource intensive, when she accounts for 1 % of the country's GDP.

Your partner is so dumb that she lowers the country's IQ level by 100.

I think there is a danger that we are losing record of the many events that have happened in the past. The two world wars, the financial crises, the holocaust, pol pot era, maria hertogh riots..

In fact what we have to pass on the next generation, is this ... the Digital Revolution. Thats all, all these online talk, chat, Facebook, all these contemporary trends and styles..

In fact Obama has been able to leverage on the power and strength of history to put forward his ideas and plans for the American Economy...

The thirst for General Knowledge is lost out due to lack of time, commitment, energy..

The Dumbest Generation.

In fact, even as political leaders renewed their globalisation vows in Davos, their governments were often taking contradictory steps back home. Few exemplify this contradiction better than Gordon Brown, Britain’s prime minister, whose grasp of international economics and passionate calls for international co-operation made him one of this year’s Davos stars.

At the forum, Mr Brown warned gravely against “deglobalisation” and denounced trade and financial protectionism. But delegates in Davos wondered aloud how this was compatible with his government’s pressure on Britain’s bailed-out banks to give priority to domestic customers. Meanwhile back home, disgruntled workers were on the march, carrying posters emblazoned with Mr Brown’s own words: “British jobs for British workers.” It is not that Mr Brown is a hypocrite. If only it were that simple. It is rather that he and other leaders are being pulled in two directions. Intellectually, they are convinced of the need to keep markets open and trade and investment flowing. Politically, they are under pressure to respond to voters who are angry, frightened and demanding protection.

Recent developments suggest that angry citizens will take priority over abstract ideas. Davos Man is losing control of events. The financial crisis demonstrated that globalisation had created an economic system more complex and more dangerous than the delegates gathered in Davos had ever realised. The inability of international politicians and businessmen to stop the drift towards protectionism looks like the next stage in the demolition of the Davos consensus.

For the moment, ideas have not caught up with the shift in the real world. At this year’s globalisation festival, delegates sang the old songs about open markets and international integration. But they were no longer belted out with much conviction. Out in the wider world, more and more people are no longer listening.
